Note: Each Player may join with one character, and only one. Choose wisely. Your character must be in the Market and purchase something - anything that is non-consumable - in the first round. Enter and explain what you have bought. The next round will be posted on Tuesday, August 31st, and then every 24 hours after.
Telluride was beautiful in the fall. The sky was a delicate blue color, the leaves were just starting to change, and the city was abuzz as students returned to school. Everybody had gathered in the Market to do some simple back to school shopping, and the stores were the busiest they would be until Christmas season. It seemed everybody was bustling about their own activities.
There was a strange sort of draw to the Market, even for the most antisocial of people. It was just subtle enough not to register in anybody's mind, but no matter their usual preferences, people would find themselves wandering towards downtown Telluride. It seemed most of the city was there, leaving most of the streets outside of the downtown district unnaturally bare.
The general mood for the Market was surprisingly chipper. It seemed everybody wore a smile on their face, and neighbors called out greetings to each other before moving on their way. Arms were loaded down with shopping bags and people bumped almost idly into each other, calling out an apology before moving on, but few seemed to mind the crowd at all. Everybody seemed to be happy with where they were, and where they were going.

Not everybody... as the gloom ball of Doom walked into the market place bringing with him an unnatural chill... he looked around at the busy bodies, and snorted an unamused chuckle.
"And so the Meek shall inherit the Earth."
He spat. This is why this world was doomed. He saw nothing meek about the crowd, only greed. Hunger for wealth and power poured out from the very essence of these people. It was disgusting. He thought to himself as he went into a local artistry store. He had used up the last of his Ink, and was running low on paper. He grabbed the things he needed and placed the items and money on the counter. Not speaking a word.

WR didn't mind crowds too much. Sure, the headaches of people bumping into them and playing it off as an "accident" was annoying, but on days where they just wanted to disappear, the cloak of a crowd was the perfect remedy.
And today was one of those days.
Deep into the marketplace was a skate shop, which the punk frequented. They stepped into the store with their head high, hands buried in their jacket pockets, wearing an expression that screamed "Fuck you and your mother" to anyone who happened to be paying them any attention.
Hastily, they plucked a choker from its resting place and slapped it onto the counter, grinning at the cashier, who grinned back, but said nothing. They weren't exactly acquainted, but he definitely knew them as good business.
"Don't ask what happened to the last one. Keep the change." They said, rolling their eyes playfully, before snapping the choker around their neck and walking out of the store, shoving their hands back into their jacket.
In and out. Just how they liked it.

Jasper was out from his art gallery, an employee he trusted left to tend to business. The marketplace had become a sanctuary for him. Somewhere where it was impossible to exclude and nobody cared who you were. The noise was helpful, it allowed him to drown out his surroundings and invdulge in thoughts and daydreams, manifested in the trail of small but enchanting doodles that appeared on the ground where he stepped and the air around him.
He was out clothes shopping, evidenced by the fact that his arms were inudated with bags from comically expensive brands and streetwear stores alike. Along his way though he had found something interesting. In a witchcraft store, a gorgeous pair of scissors labled as an Athamè. Needing a pair for his own sewing endeavors, he would pick them up. Jasper was fond of such trinkets, anything with a story to it.
Finally, he was walking home to his gallery and the luxury apartment upstairs, his neutral expression betrayed by an excited heart and a deeply expressive runway walk leaving art in his steps.

Buzzing with joy, Janiya confidently walked into a clothing store, excited to finally buy what she was looking forward to for months now, something her sibling back in her hometown finally got around to adding money on her card for... a new, sharp looking blazer.
Her heels made their rhythmic sound on the hard floor as she quickly retrieved what she came for off a nearby hanger and brought it up to the front to meet the cashier, putting on the coat. She didn't say anything, only giving a head nod as she buttoned it up and gave the cashier her family's card.
Leaning over to look at the price, she laughed. "If I had living parents they'd be pissed," she said to the cashier, who gave her a concerning look.
"Twenty five grand for a coat? I'd be pissed too," they told Janiya, giving the card back. Taking it in hand, she walked out of the store, waving behind her.
"Pocket change! Have a nice day!" She yelled back, whistling a tune as she merged into the crowd. Today was going quite well.

The market was packed, and the air sizzled with suppressed eagerness as the toffee-haired girl moved among the stalls. As a personal rule, Lulu would always try to avoid direct contact with the other patrons and today she had no intention of making an exception. But whilst skilfully dodging the crowd, her attention did happen to fall on one particular vendor selling an assortment of plants and herbs.
One such herb—used in cooking back home in France—called for her immediate attention: chervil.
The resemblance to parsely was striking, but not quite exact; and before she knew it, Lulu's hand was already holding coin in exchange for a small, but cutely potted sprig.
"Thank you very much!" she beamed politely, already daydreaming about it's soon-to-be home on the windowsill of her apartment.

Vesper casually strolled up to the market before coming to a stop at the entrance. Past the dangling locks of red he gazed over the crowd, a light smile on his face.
So this is Telluride, huh? he thought to himself, assuming that the marketplace currently held most of the city's population. Strange to be so busy, but who was he to judge. He had heard rumors that a strange ghost appeared in the city not too long ago. Something about a prophecy...maybe it had something to do with that. Maybe that's why he was here in the first place...
In any case, he had shopping to do. Resuming his path, he melded with the flow of the crowd. Occasionally, he bumped shoulders with a stranger. Hopefully they didn't expect an apology, because they weren't getting one. Manners were such a silly concept to Vesper; why put up some fake façade of kindness just so people would like you more. Why treat a person one way until you get to know them and then drop it? No no, he was the kind of guy to treat everyone as another bar friend, good and bad.
Which is exactly what he applied when checking out from a gift shop he came across. Initially, he came to shop for a headlight he needed for his bike. However, the gift shop's undeniably effective marketing had drawn him in. Thus, he was leaving with a long leather necklace that held an asterisk-shaped pendant. He rather liked the boho vibes it gave off.
"Thanks boss," Ves threw the comment over his shoulder as he walked out.

A scream broke out, filling the air with high pitched misery. The crowd slowly became quiet as it went on and on, people looking around, attempting to identify the source. People whispered, children clinging to the legs of their parents, tears falling.
Finally, it died down, and an almost eerie sort of silence enveloped all of downtown.
In the alleyways and behind buildings, people in strange, black cowls could be seen, their faces hidden behind their hoods. They were hunchback and murmuring strange words beneath their breath.

Kai ran out the store at the scream as flashes of the little girl flew through his mind. Somebody was about to Die.

WR's face twisted in disgust as they swiveled their head around to identify the source of the scream. They had an idea of a direction, but unfortunately, the crowds were too thick to navigate. ...Or were they? In an instant, flames engulfed their entire body, and people seemed to scatter like prey scurrying from predator. That was when they caught sight of the hooded figures, and disgust yet again painted their face. "Hey, assholes!" They called out, balling their hands into fists as they confidently approached them, cracking their fists against their palms. Primary Ability - Conflagration ;; WR channels heat to a desired portion of their body and can choose to set it ablaze, enhancing their spiritual prowess and unlocking the rest of this skill set. For as long as part of them is engulfed in flames, they can manipulate any and all fire, regardless of the source. Damaging effects scale with 100% SPR, increased to 150% against Seared targets. Additionally, they are completely immune to fire damage.

...and just like that, today was no longer going as well as it was a few seconds ago. As she heard the scream and bunches of people started moving around in hushed motions, she sighed. No matter the era or place, even if she was thousands of miles from home, there's always someone who wants to disrupt the peace.
As it at last eased up on her ears, she noticed a few people in the back, shady looking people. Her plan was to, for one, not mess up her new fit, and two, stay back and protect those around her. Energy as white as snow gathered in her hand, watching as someone- someone on fire?- yelled out... there goes her plan.
"Hey, you- wait!" She called to the burning person. "You got no idea what they can do- ah geez..." Creating a white shield in one hand, she watched with concern, ready to act.

Jasper immediately stopped at the sound of screams, his expression unwavering but his nerves dancing. An attack in broad daylight in an open area? This usually meant bombs or heavy firepower were involved. As Jasper was thinking though, he noticed that other altered were using their powers. Following suit he would prepare himself, creating balls of iridescent, paint like energy around, ready to be shaped quickly. Taking a moment to observe the figure ls that seemed to have the area surrounded, he would tap his foot, trying to think of a way out.

Lulu found herself frozen in place with flustered eyes, as though bound to the plant stall she stood beside. No sooner than the shrill sound faded away, there came the unmistakable sounds of several abilities igniting in preparation for combat, along side a faint murmuring rising from the back streets of the market.
"H-hey... What's going on?" She would ask someone close by her, unsure if a disruption in the streets was something that fell into her domain as an undercover A.I. agent or not... Not that she was particularly prepared to handle such a threat with only some herbs in hand anyway...

Vesper nearly jumped back, thinking someone screamed at him exiting the building. The hell? His theory disproven by the scream's continuation, Ves resorted to cautiously examining his surroundings. He sought the source of the shrill, but the sound vanished as quickly as it had appeared.
"Is everyone-" he began to ask before being interrupted by more shouts. This time, however, they were accompanied by a ripple of moving bodies, which revealed one of those Altered people he had heard so much about. Flames engulfed the kid's body without burning it at all, which meant they could be used as a weapon. Apparently someone pissed him, or.. her? off, judging by not only the fire but the shouting at a hidden rival.
Nonetheless, the kid was showing itself to be a threat. Someone needed to do something.
Vesper grabbed a nearby soda can from a display, completely full. "HEY, PUNK!" he shouted as he threw the can with all his force toward the flame dude's face!

Kai would be almost immediately overrun by the crowd, keeping him in the threshold of the store. They were starting to move around each other more and more, trying to figure out where, exactly, the screaming had come from.
WR would feel a strange exhaustion set into their limbs as soon as they activated their Nen. It wasn’t enough to keep them from utilizing it, or from chasing the crowds away with their fire, but it would be noticeable, a heaviness that would settle upon their chest and spread outwards through their entire body. They managed to make it to the alleyway nearest them, where one of the hooded figures stood. The person was hidden between the shadows and the black outfit they wore: a clingy yet shapeless black dress and a hooded cape, the hood pulled over their face entirely. They continued to whisper the strange, foreign words, paying WR no mind, even as a soda can came flying towards them!
Janiya and Jasper would both feel the same heaviness, the same exhaustion, start to pull at them the moment they activated their Nen. It started in their chests and slowly began to leak outwards, into their limbs. It would not prevent them from utilizing their abilities, but it would be a bit exhausting to keep it up and require more focus than usual. The crowds would begin to move around them, a bit more frantically than before, as they continued to search for the screamer.
Jasper would notice that every alleyway and exit was filled with one of the strange shapes, standing there and blocking the way. They didn’t seem to be armed, or if they were, the weapons would be hidden beneath the layers of clothes, and they didn’t seem to be paying any attention to the people around them. They were just standing there, murmuring.
The person Lulu had spoken to looked at her with wide eyes, filled with confusion. The man blinked slowly, his brows furrowing as if it took him a moment to understand what she had asked. “Ah…” He opened his mouth, then turned away from her, starting to move again with the crowd, almost as if in a trance.
Nobody moved to attempt to stop Vesper as he grabbed the soda can, nor as he threw it. In fact, it seemed the people all around him moved around, almost aimlessly, paying him very little attention.

"Um... wait!" Lulu said desperately, still unable to understand; Although she quickly enough came to the conclusion that the man's lack of response was no mere coincidence.
Her hand went instinctively for her pocket, going straight for her phone to call for the proper authorities.
Whilst moving behind the stalls with an unsteady gait to avoid the crowd, she would look onto the street to try and understand the bigger picture. And, assuming the call went through, attempt to relay her conclusions as carefully as her panicked mind could manage.

Jasper would make his orbs into spear like pillars, being sure not to harm anyone by making this a slow and bright transformation. He would yell out, his voice still not very loud, but a decent yell that came out of the spears as well.
"HEY, THEY DO NOT SEEM TO BE ATTACKING. STAY TOWARDS THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND WALK IN A LINE, THE PEOPLE BEHIND YOU WILL HAVE TO ."
He would then approach the alley, a few spears blocking them from Jasper, who was otherwise defenseless with his bags.
"What are you high school cult degenerates up to? This isn't funny, and it won't end well for you."
Despite his threat, he was calm and non-chalant about it, all while remaining serious as a heart attack.

She froze in place as her entire body felt weighted... this wasn't natural nor was it normal. Either way, she wasn't built like a leaf and she was raised to hustle on the streets, shortness of breath and exhaustion wasn't going to slow her down, Janiya thought as she raised her shield up close to her chest. Very slowly.
Sighing, she dispelled the shield, believing it to be the root of her problems before focusing, making her Nen into her two, dual chi blades, this time yellow in color to represent her increased focus. Defense was her forte, and so, with other notably interesting people around her as well, her goal now was to protect the crowd and keep her blazer spotless in the process.
Using her blades to direct the crowd away from the shady ass figures, often times with her tip pointed towards someone's throat, she silently guided as many people as she could before she got an idea. Dispelling one sword, she created an energy microphone.
"MEN, WOMEN, AND FAMILIES WITHOUT FANCY SKILLS COME OVER HERE," Janiya shouted, almost at a scream, into the mic, pointing towards her spot with the sword, "YOU WILL BE SAFE OVER HERE, WITH ME." If her plan works the way she wants it to, a good size of people will be close enough for her to defend them and ride this out... as her Nen constructs beamed yellow, she found herself heaving a bit. Maybe something weird was going on, and it wasn't the shield that was the issue...

WR managed to drown out the commotion as they settled their focus on the hooded figure. As they approached, they reached out a hand to yank the hood over their head, before their attention was suddenly ripped away by the soda can flying at their face, and with split second reaction, they harshly slapped it away, staring daggers at Vesper. Their flames seemed to grow more brilliant, despite the exhaustion that sat in their muscles. "Are you fucking retarded, a bad shot, or both?" They hissed, whipping away from the figure and crossing their arms over their chest. "Remind me to kick your fuckin' ass when I'm done with this cultist wannabe," they scoffed, turning back to the hood. If they were still there, WR would attempt to pin them against the wall, clenching onto them harshly as flames roared, threatening to incinerate their clothes. "Speak, English, or I'mma GIVE you a reason to mask your pathetic face." Primary Ability - Conflagration ;; WR channels heat to a desired portion of their body and can choose to set it ablaze, enhancing their spiritual prowess and unlocking the rest of this skill set.
