Settling down in Telluride seemed like an overwhelming task when she looked at the logistics of everything. Her mother's death had left her with a decent amount of money in her bank account but Ziggy had gone through most of that with all of the legal problems surrounding her brother. Part of her wanted to go ahead and buy a house somewhere but there was just so much going on in Telluride that she was not sure she wanted to just stay here for the rest of her brother's childhood. Then again, he was living here now and his foster family had even enrolled him in school where he could be around other special needs children around his own age. That was something she wished she had done when she had the chance but back then it was her mother's choice and not hers.
She had opted to rent a nice little townhouse in a better part of town where she could have a bedroom for her brother on the second floor next to hers and an office downstairs where she could try to find some free lance work to earn a new income. She needed a few things before she could really call the place home though. So she went to the Marketplace that seemed to be the hustle of the town to see if there was anything there that might stand out to her.

“Oh for crying’ out loud!” And out loud she was as she was holding a really rustic French patterned pillow. “Why is everything’ so expensive here? you want me to pay thirty dollars for a pillow I’m goin’ to decorate my sofa with? Can you believe this?” She would say to just anyone passing by.
She was tall bigger than just any tall and about as broad as a car face her with her shoulders and in her hand held some items that would look much smaller than they actually are and each one was just about as lacy and elegant as the last. She dressed in a massive Aerosmith shirt which still seemed tight on her and a skirt which was tea-length and absolutely boho and teal. Her shoes were… well they could have been flip flops but it was more like a polish wooden base crudely cut and some decorative straps to tie them to her foot. Her family had a talented seamstress but no one was a cobbler. They noisily clopped at every step Wil would take.

Ziggy glanced almost idly at the person that made a motion towards her as if trying to get her involved with the conversation at hand. She was loud and boisterous but that wasn't exactly something that Ziggy had no experience with. She would have just walked away from the entire thing altogether if she did not see the pillow the redheaded lady was holding. Her eyes widened slightly and she leaned over to stare at it.
"Only 30?" she said with shock and awe before reaching out to run her fingers over the fabric just to see what it was made out of. She looked up at the woman that was way taller than her and smiled. "But these are outside pillows, I'm pretty sure. Like for porch swings." Whether or not they actually were she didn't know. But that's what she would have used them for.

She honestly was surprised someone was there and hadn’t really gestured to get anyones attention intentionally. But what they said made sense and she knew what she was talking about.
She blushed and poked a pouty lip however. “You are right but it’s so darn cute and I don’t have a balcony or porch swing.” Man she missed her swing back home she couldn’t even try to sit in one now. “I’m trying to be smart about my spendin’ until pay day but you know how sometimes you would probably come back and it be gone. Lots of things are more expensive here than back home.” Her lightly pronounced southern accent might have spelled exactly what she meant.

Ziggy stood up to her full height and smiled at the woman. She was just glad to hear what sounded like another new comer so she could feel a little less alone. It almost seemed like everybody here knew everybody else... Or at least everybody know the foster family. She was a nobody here so it was good to be a nobody with somebody else.
"If you want to be smart about it, why not go to a resale shop instead? Some of those have some genius finds."

She smiled. “Already did found a couple earlier this week. You know… I came in here for lightbulbs and I found this cute lamp and this fluffy bathroom rug and this cute toothbrush holder… and I’ve not yet… gotten the lightbulbs.” She had forgotten and cleared her throat from the further embarrassment. Her dual colored eyes had long red lashes which were pronounced when her eyes were wider tickling her upper eye lids.
“I… probably should put a couple of these back” she admitted and then smiled sheepishly. “At least the rug and the toothbrush holder… someone might have to kill me before I let go of this lamp though. Reminds me of my Granny, hers were yellow from the hundred years worth of cigarette smoke but… still somethin’ to take me back home. It’s also a good hearty price though.”

Ziggy smiled softly at the memory that the stranger shared with her. It was something so small that most people would have probably looked it over but talking about family always resonated with her. No matter how somebody felt about their family they were the ones that always inspired the most intense of emotions, good or bad. She was just glad to see somebody else who seemed to have good memories too.
"Not the rug! Maybe the toothbrush holder. Maybe. Unless you are going to end up just putting your toothbrush on the edge of your sink or something if you don't get it. Then I might say get it... but only then." Ziggy smiled at the much bigger woman and glanced around her to peer into the shop. It looked like it might have some good finds, like an old antique store.

“Take it.” She handed the toothbrush holder to her new friend. “Since ten years ago I’ve tried to save up and make my way here but before that… I can say I’ve had my toothbrush in worse places than atop my bathroom sink, stinkin’ brothers to blame. But if you are gonna take it off my hands remove the temptation before I’m struck by lightin’. I’ll get anothern in a week or so.”
“I’m Wilma by the way, everyone back home called me Wil.” If the girl took the toothbrush holder Wil would have a free hand to shake and greet. Other hands are dwarfed in her palm but she still tries to be civil.

Ziggy looked kind of surprised when the other woman handed her the toothbrush holder but she wasn't going to turn it away. It was almost like a gift from a friend even if the two had barely met... and she had to pay for it herself. But it was fine. It was always kind of lonely moving to a new city and she had no interest in turning away somebody that might chase away at least a little bit of that loneliness. She smiled instead and nodded as she clutched the item.
"I'm Ziggy. As in Stardust." She had grown up saying that even if most people didn't quite get the reference especially in this day and age. She hadn't gotten it when she was young either but had since found a sort of pride in being named after such an awesome band. "Everyone back home calls me a bunch of unflattering names so let's just stick to Ziggy okay? Do you like Wilma or Will better?" She would reach out for her hand to shake and didn't seem to be intimidated at all by the size difference.

“I wondered about that reference.” She tapped her chest to signal herself. “Big fan. I think Ziggy is about as cute of a name as it gets. Will is fine with me I’m named after my great grandma an I get a bunch of them scooby do jokes. As you might be able to guess, not many people are named Wilma these days. Good to know someone kind out this way, do you live near by?”
She honestly was a social butterfly and would welcome a friend in this town. It wouldn’t even matter if Ziggy herself was an Altered like her or he more in common they had the merrier at least. The people here thought it strange seeing her but it was far less judgmental and scared than it was back home. Southern folk are suspicious and they can be snobby without a right to be. Here you could guess every other person was some kind of altered. That alone made Wil feel a little less like a sore thumb.

Ziggy hesitated a moment before nodding. She was pretty sure that her townhouse was nearby even if she couldn't quite remember exactly where it was. She glanced over her shoulder back the way she came and was trying to remember how many turns she had taken and in what direction. Left, right, straight a while, and then....
"Somewhere around here, yeah. I just moved to Telluride. What about you? Sounds like you're pretty established?" If a regularly paying job meant established anyway.

“It’s a little better than a basic pay job with a lot of hands on work outside. Being from a farm I’m used to doing that, more used to it now. I’ve been here about a month and a half but it was a lot of hard working and saving getting here.” She looked outside in a general sense.
“When that thing appeared and some of us…” she waved a free hand in a vertical direction at her appearance. “Changed. It was not easy to live where I lived and it was hard to go anywhere. Hard to travel too. I traveled here in a uhaul… in the back, with my stuff, while my brother Bo drove. Took me the whole ten years before I became an adult and then saved up and planned that out.

Ziggy tried to not let her emotions show but she had a difficult time hiding them especially when they were so fresh. She still wasn't entirely sure how anyone would treat her if they knew about her recent add-ons. They didn't do anything really but they were difficult to hide. It had taken her nearly a week to figure out the ribbon trick.
"Is the prejudice really that bad?" she whispered as her smile started to fade away.

“Not here… no actually it’s pretty acceptable here. But not in the biblical south so much. I’m getting plenty of looks myself but I’m a red head… I’m used to that.” She joked and brushed aside a hand full of hair behind her shoulder. “No it seems like many people support Altered Pride in themselves and others. This place has been ushering many waves of acceptance through out the years. I think here we can get our needs met and questions answered.”
She went silent a moment she hadn’t really gotten a chance to process what the girl has been feeling.
Wil grinned softly. “Are you altered too?”

Ziggy listened closely to every word that this woman said and tried to pay close attention to the meaning behind the words. She had witnessed prejudice first hand and it was as dangerous as it was disgusting. She had no idea the world could be that ugly of a place just at the drop of a hat. It was like watching a horror movie play out and she could still remember the wild energy of the crowd as it pushed around her.
Ziggy shuddered at the memory and decided to focus on Will instead. She wasn't totally sure how to answer that or if she was even really supposed to. She had gone through so much effort to hide her horns and it would be a shame to ruin all of that hard work. Lying was probably not the smartest idea either with how bad she knew she was at outirhgt lying.

“Ah… sorry, you just seemed to have a personal grip on the subject so I made an assumption. We can change topics if you don’t want to talk about that one.” Will picked up a couple of things on the top shelf that looked interesting to her she was still shopping in a sense.
“Speaking of this side of the nation though they kind of have everything and the ocean is waaay different than I’m familiar with. It makes me want to go to the beach so much. Maybe I could finally get a tan.” She stared far off a bit dreamy eyed.

The ease with which this woman switched subjects was jarring to say the least. Ziggy was used to people picking up on the slightest thing that made her uncomfortable and then just sticking to it until the nagging became outright bullying and the bullying became outright abuse. The people she grew up around were never so kind.
She glanced up as her new found friend grabbed something from the top shelf with the sort of ease she knew she would only ever be able to dream of. She was not short by any normal standards but this woman still towered over her. It was weirdly kind of nice to be the smaller one.
"I honestly didn't even think about the beach," she admitted thoughtfully as she turned back to look at the shelves mostly at random to see if anything caught her attention. "I don't honestly think I've ever been to the beach. I mean maybe I went when I was a kid but that feels kind of like forever ago."

“We’d go at least once a year over the summer, deep sea fishing for some small shark meat.” She sang a whoop with elation. “Good stuff… the gulf is not the best for swimming with all the schools of jelly fish and creepy prickly plant algae but it has good catching. It was always just such a long drive and cramped with all my brothers… ya could not be the one to doze off first.” She rolled her eyes as she smiled. “But now it’s practically in the back yard!”
She recalled the touristy towns in the ports where they’d have many wonderful memories of shows, sands, crazy family attractions, common sea shell and sand dollar trinkets. Cute and expensive things to remember your trip by. Also the many restaurants that sold sea food from the rustic little shacks to the higher dining places.

"You can fish for sharks?" Ziggy asked with genuine surprise. It sounded like it should be illegal but then again it was just fishing. "How would you even catch a shark? Like a regular one? With a fishing hook?"

She paused a moment to realize a big moment of culture shock it caused a laugh to erupt from her chest and she did her best to muffle it but the first second was a real raspberry before her hand covered it.
“Oh pfffftt…yes… Ha. I’m not hurling great whites or anything some are called sandbars and black tips… although my uncle caught a Bull shark once he’ll tell you it was so big that it almost sunk his boat and wave his hands some major size comparison but it was a baby… we let it go.” She shrugged. “It’s pretty common, shark is good dense meat.” She paused again and realization grew on her face. “As a matter of face with the market here you can see all kinds of things you could catch or grow!”
