Backstory
Backstory: When the war started, her parents truly believed in the cause. They were, like so many others, misled into believing that what their government stood for was right, that everything they fought for was legit. They didn't realize just how sick and twisted their unit was.... until her mother got pregnant. As a member of the Meta-Human Tactical Division, her parents were not free people. They belonged to the government, for the entirety of their lives. They were trained to be fighting forces, slaves to what the government wanted of them. Her mother found out she was pregnant while on leave and it absolutely destroyed her. She knew she couldn't bring a child into this world, where the war was destroying everything they knew and loved.
Her mother tried to run away.
They found her and they brought her back, demanding to know why she left in the first place. Her mother was honest to them and explained it all to them, laying it on the line... and instead of understanding, they decided to keep her mother locked away until she gave birth. Saga was only six weeks old when they sent her mother back onto the front lines. Instead of being raised with her parents, Saga was raised in the Academy, by some of the most powerful members of the MHTD.
She hated them. From a young age, she hated the people who raised her, and she hated what they expected her to do. They tortured her in order to make her stronger, in order for her to get over her fears. When she was six, she admitted to being afraid of the dark, and so they locked her in a dark room for two days. It was awful... It was sickening. The only times she knew love were when her parents would come home on leave. For six weeks out of the year, she would get to live with her parents, who would do everything they could to show Saga that she was loved, that she was cherished. Every time her parents came home, however, she could see more and more of the scars of war, the toll that it took on both of them. Eventually, even her doting father became distant and quiet, lashing out over small things. Her mother, who always managed to keep a cool head, began to smile less and less, even around her.
When they were away, she worked with the leaders of the Academy, and it was through this work that she learned exactly what was going on. The Academy, the MHTD, were the ones who started this war. They hid their intentions behind promises of equality, but in actuality, they believed that Meta-Humans were supposed to RULE this world. They believed that they were superior, that this was the natural order of things. This war that was tearing her parents away from her for most of her life, this war that was destroying the happy, loving parents she knew... This war was for nothing. It was bullshit.
When she was sixteen, Saga managed to run away. They came looking for her, of course, but somehow, she found a group of rebels known only as The Pirates. The oceans were the last untouched piece of land in the world, the only part free of the horrors of war. The Pirates took her aboard their ship, and they showed her all of the things they were planning to try and put an end to the war.
However, The Pirates were a small group. They had three ships with what totaled around 150 crewmates. They had absolutely no hope of trying to overthrow the MHTD... but they did not give up. They tried, rescuing kids from the Academy, trying to save people from the clutches of the government. Eventually, they managed to save her father. Her mother, however, was considered a high priority in their ranks, and there was no way for them to get to her. Her father, a genius when it came to anything technological or mechanical, spent his days below deck, working on something.
A year later, when Saga turned 18, her father asked for her to come down to his room with him. He showed her what he was working on: a time machine. He hoped that it would work... but there was no time left. He had no way to experiment, to try to figure it all out. The Pirates were in grave danger, and he was convinced that if they did not do this RIGHT NOW... they would have no chance of success. He told Saga he needed her to go back in time and stop the MHTD from ever forming. She needed to find a way to overthrow the people who would raise her before they came to power. It was the only way.
So, Saga agreed.
Little did she know that her father's experiment was far from perfect. Rather than sending her back in time, it sent her instead to another dimension entirely. Somehow, 18 year old Saga ended up in Telluride.... and she wasn't entirely sure what she was supposed to do here.
