Gidget fell silent, then, allowing her anxiety to get the best of her. She removed her hands from her pockets just long enough to pull the hood up over her bowed head, and then they immediately found cover once more. She walked beside WR, but stared down at the ground, at her feet, as soon as they broke free from the shadows. The city was alive, as it always was, and people milled about on the sidewalk, going through their daily lives.
Her breath caught in her throat as somebody came close to running into her, and she glared at them from beneath her hood. It was easy to mistake her for a typical, rage filled teenager, and that was usually enough to make people give her some space. Her shoulders were tense, up almost by her ears, and her teeth were meshed so tightly that it made her jaw ache.
She didn’t say anything else, even though she had comments running wild through her head.

They glanced over to her as they were suddenly walking in the same bubble. They were close, almost enough to brush, but not quite. Their posture didn't change much as they stepped into the light, though their eyes were now filled with a certain dullness that suggested complete disinterest in the world around them. They didn't mind the city too much, despite the fact that it was a shithole, nor the crowds, but they sure as hell weren't interested in another conflict, which was more often than not nowadays.
Feeling the anxiety rolling off of Gidget, they allowed her silence, and a bit more space. They wondered why she even left her cave if she couldn't even walk outside without imitating the aura of Death itself, but... They weren't one to judge. At least, if she was anticipating malice, she had the perfect company to handle it.
Their gaze wandered, jumping between people and random lights and signs they passed by. Shithole or not, the city definitely had its charms.

The two of them wandered aimlessly and silently through the streets. The air that Gidget maintained was just enough to ensure that people left them alone. Despite the anxiety and the fear, it was almost peaceful. The city really was beautiful, in its own rights, even if it was filled with far too many people. Gidget was practically shaking when a thought suddenly hit her.
She opened her mouth to say something, but nothing came out. Her anxiety was a hard lump to swallow. Instead, she grabbed at their jacket sleeve again, tugging slightly. If they followed her, she’d lead the way through towards the bad part of town, again. The buildings that had first made Telluride a city were long since left to rot, and the people had grown exhausted and depressed with their every day lives. Less and less people walked the streets, which seemed to make the tiny imp a bit more comfortable.
She led the way to one of the tallest buildings in south Telluride. It used to be an office building, but had since become tiny apartments for those that barely had enough money to keep themselves afloat. Gidget didn’t stop, whether WR was following her or not, as she made her way towards the little run down elevator. Once inside, she turned around to see if they had come.

They glanced at her again as they felt a tug on their jacket, raising an eyebrow. They weren't exactly sure where she was taking them, if she even knew, but it wasn't like they had anywhere to be, or to go. So naturally, they continued to follow, keeping the silence. It wasn't often they felt this at peace, and they wondered what about this interaction was so...different. They barely knew this person. Hell, they STILL didn't know her name.
Though, it was a surprise to be led back into the shadows, to the older part of the city that was mostly abandoned now. It wasn't exactly a hotspot for criminal activity, but it was the perfect place to conduct suspicious activity without raising too much attention.
Turning their gaze back to the stars, they sighed, slipping their hands into their pockets. It really was a beautiful night.

Gidget led them to the run down elevator. She pulled out a small key from the pocket of her shorts and slipped it into the keyhole, giving it a turn. The elevator rumbled to life, and silently, she pressed the top button, marked with an R. Leaning back, she let it slowly drag both of them up through the building without saying a word. The further from the street they got, the more her shoulders would begin to relax, and the easier she breathed. Her anxiety began to ebb away, now that she was back in obviously familiar territory.
After a few minutes, the elevator finally dinged, signaling their arrival. She quietly led them out, and up half a flight of stairs, to the last door. It was huge and made of a heavy metal. Stopping in front of it, she turned back to them.
“You know.... Your friend... he was pretty smart. I get why the loss hurt so bad. But... I dunno. City needs more heroes and all that shit. If you’re going to be a hero.... maybe you should see what you’re fighting for.”
Why had she brought them up here? She wasn’t totally sure. This was her spot, where she went when she really didn’t want to live here anymore. Why did she bring them to the one place that could chase her emptiness and her loneliness away when she barely knew them? Maybe somehow, their friend had asked her to... which would be a lot easier to believe if she believed In ghosts in the first place.
Giving a shake of her head, she turned and pushed the door open before leading them out onto the roof.
They were on one of the tallest buildings in Telluride, just above the weight of the smog. The stars were surprisingly bright above them, and below the, the city twinkled with life.

They leaned against the elevator's back wall, kicking a foot up against it and crossing their arms over their chest, staring at the dull, flickering light. It didn't really matter where they ended up, because they were just... content. Content with the night, content with her. Up the stairs and down the hall, they felt the anxiety fade away, and as they reached the final door...
...they stepped outside with a true, genuine smile, at her comment, at the scene. They moved to the edge, leaning over it to take in the surprisingly fresh air. They were used to high, but they had never been this close to the stars. They scanned the city below, their eyes bright with determination. Everything was so much clearer up there, in a literal and metaphorical sense. She was right, Andre was right. This city was a place worth fighting for, to their dying breath.
They turned to her, that same smile stretched across their face. "Let's see coffee compare to this," they teased, giving a little half chuckle. They weren't entirely sure when coffee turned to stargazing, but they were definitely NOT going to complain.
"It's fucking gorgeous out here."

Gidget stayed back by the door for a little while, crossing her arms over her thin chest as she watched this stranger look out over the city. She had come to Telluride in order to escape, but it had since become her home. She loved this city, even if she rarely ever left it. She loved the people, even if she never spoke to any of them. And when she started to forget about that, she always came up here to remind herself.
She walked over to the edge and peered out at the people as they wandered like little ants. She tilted her head to one side.
“It’s my favorite place in the entire city.” She sighed softly, a little half smile touching her lips. “Nobody comes here. Nobody else has a key anymore, and I don’t think anyone lives on the top five floors. Too many steps to get up and down without an elevator. When I start to forget who I am, or why I do what I do, I come up here and sit for a little while.”

"I can see why," they murmured, staring down at all the people as they went about their lives. "Something about it is just... beyond description, beyond comprehension. This place is a home to so many people, and all of them have their own stories. My sister used to tell me that when I was a kid. Said life was a miracle, and it's amazing to even have the chance to exist. I think she's fallen out of the mindset now, but... y'know. You live enough, you come to realize how important perseverance is."

Gidget sat down on the edge of the roof, carefully sitting down and letting her legs dangle off the edge. She stared out at the city in silence for a long moment, pressing her lips together, she thought about what they had said to her last time, and how different it all was from their conversations this time, it seemed like everything had done a 180.... They were able to talk civilly up here. Maybe they wouldn’t, the next time they ran into each other,,, if they ever did again.
“I meant what I said last time,” she murmured. “And this time, for that matter. Your friend... it sucks that he died, and I’m sure that hurts in a way I don’t understand. But if you’re going to go around being a vigilante of justice, like you were tonight... then be a hero. It sounds like it’s what your friend wanted.”
She shrugged, unsure of where all of this was coming from. She wasn’t usually the deep, insightful type. She liked being a jerk. It kept people from getting too attached to her,
“You saved my life tonight, though. So there’s gotta be some kind of good in you.”

They glanced at her as she positioned over the ledge, opting to do the same. With graceful haste, they plopped themself up, dangling their legs over, and inching a small ways away from her. If nothing else, they were going to respect her personal space.
Mostly because there was risk of getting pushed off the edge if they didn't.
"Honestly," they started, turning their gaze to the now clear skies. "I'll tell ya I hate people, and I've got emotional instability like a motherfucker, but... When it comes down to it, I just wanna make the world better, if only for the people I care about. I've fucked up, a lot, and will keep fucking up, but I wanna make something out of it, ya know? I've been in too many fights, gang wars, watched too many people die, lost enough from bad habits and decisions. Turns most cold, and I'd be lying if I said I couldn't be, but... I guess I had enough good people in my life to keep their aspirations alive. Shit's not as fucked up as some would think."

Gidget nodded, falling silent once more and just sitting there with them for a moment, staring out at the city. What they said was true, and they seemed to be thinking more clearly than they had before. She wasn’t sure why that mattered to her, or why they deserved such special treatment. She shook her head again and kicked her legs idly back and forth,
“I’m not going to be this nice to you next time I see you, y’know,” she muttered, snickering slightly.

They grinned at that, giving a shake of their head, and turning their gaze to her.
"Good. You don't wanna slip up and give me your name on accident, yeah?"

She rolled her eyes. “You’re going to have to do a hell of a lot more than just save my life to get my name.”

They shrugged. "Hey, you said there'd be a next time, so I think I've got what it takes." they teased, sticking their tongue out.

“You don’t seem like the kind I can get rid of that easy. You’re like a dingleberry.”
Gidget shook her head, not bothering to look at them.

"What can I say? I'm persistent." They turned their gaze back to the world below, idly stretching their arms out and tapping their fingers on the ledge.

“That’s one way to say it, I guess,” she muttered, mostly to herself. She remained perched on the side of the building next to them for a moment, letting the silence fall over her again lit was strange, how she could be so comfortable sitting next to this stranger.
When she finally spoke again, it was quiet, almost inaudible. “Thank you,”

It was quiet, so much so that it was almost indirect... But they heard it. Instead of making some sort of quip or sarcastic remark, they just smiled, continuing to observe the world below. They were almost too shy to look at her, in that moment.
"Anytime, Grem," they finally said after a pause, "Maybe next time I'll take you to dinner. An arm and a leg for the first letter of your name. Seems reasonable, yeah?" They snickered, shaking their head. They totally just wanted her name. Totally.

“Yeah? And where would you get the money to take me out to eat? You’re going to have to be way more creative than that to get even the first letter of my name.” And, there it was: the complete obliviousness to the fact that somebody had just asked her out on a date. She continued to stare ahead. “Besides, I don’t go out to dinner. Too many people.”

They totally just asked out this girl, and totally got rejected... But they weren't even sure that she KNEW she just got asked out, which made them chuckle.
Her obliviousness was kinda cute.
"So what, you live off of takeout then? 'Cause there's no way you know how to cook."
