Warning: Indrid is doing dark stuff such as abusing the youth and breaking humanitarian laws.
It was dead in the middle of the night. Not many were in the park at such a time, but of course, Dyadic was. They had work to do on people they suspected to hold special Nen. Muffled screams rang through the park as a nearly transparent figure sat on a nearby bench, leg crossed, watching with interest. Indrid continued his prodding, his sharp metal tools cutting open the bound kid as he examined his insides with a piercing purple eye.
"He isn't going to survive much longer brother," The ghastly Aarica stated from her bench. Indrid didn't say anything in response as he shoved a scalpel deep into his side, the child twitching violently before stopping completely. "I told you, Indrid..."
"We'll get a new one. I don't know how, but we will." Indrid stated, wiping off his tools with a bit of his shirt. "Progress today was far more than expected. His healing capabilities stopped at a molecular level. I don't need him anymore... his soul is yours."
Aarica smiled and nodded before closing her eyes.
"Thank you. Before we leave brother, someone is approaching..." With those words, Aarica vanished, leaving a not so amused Indrid to look for the intrusive person. Maybe this person knew where to find more subjects for him to use...
"Show yourself."

Wandering the park seemed like an obvious solution. She needed to get away from the city, and away from the paranoia that came with being around people. Telluride... a city that never slept. She ran a hand through her loose, long black hair, taking a deep breath, when the sound of voices reached her ears.
It was like she could never get away.
Groaning softly, she was just about to turn around and walk the other way when the stranger called out to her. What was with these bullshit, archaic greetings? Next she knew, somebody was going to unironically tell her to halt.
"Cool your jets, Fido. Just another lost soul."
She rolled her eyes before slipping towards the voice, breaking the tree line.
And freezing.
How many times was she going to walk up on carnage? How many dead people was she going to see? This was getting ridiculous. Instead of commenting on the experiment, she turned her gaze to Indrid, her thin body tensing.

"Another lost soul? You poor, lost slender thing." Indrid replied back nonchalantly, standing where he was. There were a lot of ways he could approach this particular situation, and of course he was going to do it in a way that most benefited himself. Before he could say anything else or even think about attacking, his wraith of a sibling reappeared in her transparent glory, sitting back on the bench nearby.
So much for that plan.
"Hello, would you care to sit?" Aarica asked the stranger calmly, patting the bench. Indrid scoffed, turning back to the corpse he was working on. "From one lost soul to another, it might be comforting."

A dead kid, a dick, and a ghost go for a walk in the park... It sounded like the opener for a terrible joke. She reached up to gently rub her temples, as if all of this was just giving her a headache. Which, to be fair, it was. This was ridiculous.
"You know what. Why not? Whats the worst that's gonna happen... You cut me up? Afraid my organs aren't in good enough condition to fetch you much of a price."
She shook her head and moved over towards the bench, eyeing the man for a moment.
"Whatcha working on, there?" She said, though she didn't expect much of an answer.

Indrid, never turning to acknowledge the person speaking, continued on his work. He had no idea what they were talking about. Organs, for a price? What did that have to do with his research? He didn't know, and didn't care to ask. It would be a waste of his time speaking to someone who looked so weak, and as soon as his sister was finished with her friendly rambling, he'd attack, for sure.
Aarica moved over a bit to make room for her to sit, staring at her as she moved.
"He's studying how healing Nen works. Knowing the in's and out's of such a strong ability will make it easy to cut down those who practice the skill," she explained in the most casual manner. "We aren't looking to sell your insides or take them... this is purely for scientific purposes."

When Ripley moved, she did so with a strange, feline sort of grace. It was readily apparent to anybody who looked that she was familiar with her body and all the ways it worked. She sat down and crossed one leg over the other and leaned back, stretching her lean body as she watched him.
"Studying Nen, huh? I guess that's one way to do it... But wouldn't live, uh... specimens work better?"

Aarica crossed her arms, humming something about an unlucky cat to herself as she continued watching her new conversing partner join her on the bench. She wondered if Indrid would attempt to kill her... if so, she knew he wouldn't last too long, even with his cyber body. Starting conflict with someone who moved so gracefully was never a good idea... which is why it was a great idea to ensure she was closer to herself than her brother.
"Yes." Aarica replied back plainly, finally shifting her gaze from her to Indrid. "He perished shortly before you arrived. Now he's just one of my thousands of souls. In total... I would say he lasted five minutes."
"Six," Indrid corrected, still disfiguring the corpse.
"Six minutes. Isn't that exciting? The child lasted longer than the others."

"So, is that what you do? Harvest the souls from his... experiments?"
Ripley sat there, delicately poised. She seemed, to the naked eye, to be relaxed, but her fingertips dangled close to the hilt of her katana, and her eyes remained sharp. With little notice, she could be on her feet and armed.
Her complete lack of care in regards to the corpse so close to her was also a tell. She had eyed the dead boy upon arrival, but had barely looked at him since.

"Yes. I could also harvest yours if you for some unfortunate reason cease to exist tonight." Shrugging, Aarica gave her a small smile, shifting her posture a bit to make it easier to reach Indrid if the need arose. She felt bad for her brother, danger could be three feet away from him and he'd still retain his god complex. Luckily, she was there.
"After all, I do have my own research I like to do while he does his." As she spoke, a thump was heard: the sound of Indrid throwing the corpse down to the ground, it now being unrecognizable, a bloody mess. Still, he continued to work, paying no attention to the two on the bench. Yet.

"And what research is that, exactly?"
Ripley glanced sideways at the ghost. She recognized the threat in her words, and that showed in her gaze. Still, she didn't shift from her position.

"Research that will warm the soul. Would you care to help me, miss...?"
Her response was simple and somewhat cryptic, but she didn't care. She knew it wasn't smart to just be open about everything immediately.
"I'm done," Indrid interrupted, now standing with his hands in his pockets and looking at the duo. "It's time to get rid of this dense slender witness and be on our way." Aarica shook her head, but said nothing, wondering how she'd take the news.

"I have no interest in being a sacrifice, for you or your brothers experiments." Ripley spoke simply, maintaining her relaxed posture, even as Indrid stood. She kept her facial expression and body posturing as neutral as she could.
The threat itself didn't seem to affect her. She tilted her head to one side.
"But I'm also not going to tell you or him what to or not to do. That's all morals, and I'm not one to lecture. I would suggest, however, that you stay the fuck out of my way, just like I have yours."

"Slender mortal trash." With those words, Indrid took a solid grip on the corpse's arm and flung it at the stranger, only for it to be easily caught by Aarica who was still shaking her head.
"Let's not attack our guest. She's right, she did leave us be, and for now we should do the same. After all, brother, someone this weak isn't worth our time." Aarica's words stung Indrid, but he backed off. If she was defending her then she obviously had a motive for doing so. Instead, he sat down on the ground, tinkering with his mechanical arm in silence.
Aarica meanwhile let out a sigh of relief. What she said about the stranger being pretty weak was an obvious lie, but she wanted to ensure her brother left here in one piece tonight.
"He's learning social cues. My name's Akalade. Yours?"

Ripley saw as he grabbed the body and her eyes flashed slightly... but even by the time the ghost had stopped the attack, she hadn't budged. She looked like she was going to allow it to hit her, even though the challenge that shined in her gaze belied that.
Her Nen rushed through her blood, filling her to the brim with rage and emotion. She could feel the chains as they slithered around her soul, could almost hear them... but did nothing to summon the one. Not yet.
She cocked a brow slightly as the attack was foiled, then turned her gaze to the woman. A slow, wicked sort of smile touched her lips. She wondered, almost idly, if her chain would affect a ghost.
"Rie," she said with a nod. "You must love Mr. Mad Scientist over there a lot, to do what you just did." She nodded at the corpse and flexed the fingers that continued to dangle just inches away from the hilt of her sword.

Aarica nodded. "I do. I love him a lot. It's one of my hellsworn duties to protect him, and he protects me." Her eyes briefly glanced at Indrid, who was now paying them no attention, no doubt thinking about ways to just nuke the whole park, before setting her sights on Rie. "From a distance." Pointing towards her hand, she asked a question that was inevitable.
She unlike her brother spent her time on the streets, fighting, getting real personal with people she considered dummies. She knew what being on edge looked like, which is why it was all the more trivial to keep Indrid away from this Rie. She strongly doubted her sibling's ability to react to such movements.
"While he's busy reconstructing his nervous system, I'm curious, Rie... what are you hiding?" Aarica asked with a small, devilish smile. "A dark past? A sleazier attitude? A special skill?"

"It wouldn't be much of a secret if I just came out and told people, now would it?"
Ripley offered the ghost her most winning smile, though it didn't quite reach her eyes. She turned to watch Indrid again, but her fingers hadn't inched any closer to her weapon. She seemed to have settled on tense, but not outright aggressive.

"But I'm so curious. What a shame..." Aarica sighed. "I suppose there's only one way of finding out." Aarica stood up abruptly, dusting herself off... but stopping as she remembered she's a spirit, there's nothing to brush off. "Doctor?"
"Yeah, Director?"
"Stay there, it's time to do research of my own." A grunting Indrid complied, leaning back as he got ready to watch whatever the hell was going on. Aarica spread her legs a good distance apart and raised her hands up, ready to fight. She wanted to know what Rie was keeping hidden away. A few love taps would get her her answer. And if she died? She died. Another soul to study.
"Ready, Rie?" Not waiting for an answer, Aarica reeled back and launched a full forced punch directly at Rie's chest, whether she was up on her feet by now or not.
Love taps her ass, she wasn't the easygoing type.

Rie had remained on the bench, even as the ghost stood. It allowed her the back support she knew she was going to need if somebody moved to attack her, and it seemed as if these people were bound and determined to do just that. She watched as they talked, her eyes remaining sharp, and the moment Aarica made a comment, she was already moving. She shoved all of her weight downwards, using the momentum to flip her thin body over the back of the bench. It would give her enough time to get to her feet and make distance between them without allowing either to flank her.
She made no move to draw her sword as she backed up a few steps, staring at them both. They talked about studying Nen, and she didn’t want to give them any reason to want to study her. She felt the chains wiggling, begging to be released, but she didn’t want any unnecessary attention. She took a deep breath to try to calm her own soul and continued to back up.
“I’ve given you no reason to attack me, and I have no interest in fighting you.”

Indrid's patience was thinning. It was one thing trying to get answers from someone he considered beneath himself, it was another thing trying to to get those answers from someone who probably didn't even have a substantial amount of Nen to begin with. Nevertheless, he continued to watch the acrobats do their thing.
"A sentiment we both share. I just want you either dead or gone." Indrid stated, earning a look of disapproval from Aarica. She wasn't too surprised at the display, what she was surprised about is the lack of a counter attack. She put her hands down.
"Okay. We don't need to fight, Rie." Aarica said, taking a few steps closer.
Indrid chuckled, though. "Rie? Hah! No, we should remember her as riceball. I would call her a bitch but... she's no canine." Shushing his brother with a finger to no effect, Aarica continued.
"My curiosity is at it's peak. I won't move, just show me that secret thing..."

Ripley took another step back, maintaining the distance she had created between herself and this ghost. She did not want to be near this ghost. She didn’t trust either of them not to attack her again. She kept Indrid in her line of sight, but her attention was mostly focused on Aarica. If the male was worth it, he would have joined his sister in the fight. He obviously allowed the ghost to protect him, which made sense. She was fast, and she was probably strong. She didn’t want to allow any hit to land.
She ignored what the male said. She understood, then, that he was probably all bark and no bite. “You’ve given me no reason to trust you enough to share secrets,” she murmured, body still tense.
